Ageing well in a Changing World
Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians and Ambassador for Elder Abuse Prevention shares the findings of his report Ageing Well in a Changing world released in November 2020. The report was prepared with input from 5000 older Australians and provides a great insight into the views of older people about what it means to age well. This video is suitable for all staff and volunteers who are interested in understanding the views of older people with whom you work. |

Ageing Well @ CSU – new ways of knowing and doing in a rural setting (case study)
Associate Professor Melissa Nott is a senior lecturer in Occupational Therapy and the Ageing Well Program at Charles Sturt University. Melissa has a particular focus on supporting OT and multidisciplinary teams to translate evidence into practice to achieve person-centred meaningful outcomes for clients, families, and communities. In this presentation, Melissa shares her experience of establishing and piloting services for older people in the community that focus on healthy ageing rather than the management of specific medical conditions. The core principles of the early intervention, Ageing Well program incorporates elements of physical health, cognitive abilities, wellness, lifelong learning, social component, and accessibility. This case study presents an innovative person-centred approach to the delivery of allied health services. Effective & efficient Telehealth for Occupational Therapy
Presented by Professor Natasha Lannin PhD, BSc, GCIS, FAOTA, FOTARA Department of Neuroscience, Central Clinical School Monash University, this informative presentation discusses evidence based approaches for the use of telehealth within occupational therapy. The presentation includes an overview of potential telehealth interventions, processes and key considerations and discusses the use of different ‘tele-encounters’ within a range of clinical settings. The presentation also includes case studies shared by Katherine Cameron, Manager, Occupational Therapy at Access Health and Georgia Brock, Occupational Therapist with West Gippsland Healthcare Group. Ending ageism and elder abuse
In recognition of world elder abuse day the ESDT hosted a forum to discuss ageism, elders rights and elder abuse. Tackling ageism campaign Sharon Porteous from the Inner East PCP was joined by Anna Makedonskaya from Whitehorse City Council and Richard Joseph from Maroondah City Council to discuss the activities that are taking place at national, regional and local level to end ageism. The panel share their experiences of tackling ageism through a joined-up approach and share their challenges and successes. They are a member of the national Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN), delivering the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP). Pauline and Arati discus the services and support ERA offer and the organisations approach to working with consumers. |
